Mosquito Lake State Park adventure

I will admit Mosquito Lake State Park usually underwhelms me. It does, however, have the advanatge of being relatively close to home. To my surprise, yesterday was amazing!

We saw a first for us – an osprey! I didn’t get a fabulous photo becuase it all happened so fast, but got a good enough one for ID purposes – and I could see it was gripping a very larg fish. It was truly a sight to see.

Another first was a horned grebe. So exciting!

I spotted a killdeer hanging out near the edge of a parking lot. I’ve never had a confirmed sighting before!

I was also able to photograph a common loon. I’ve only seen them once before and couldn’t get good shots. I love them. They’re so beautiful and I was impressed with how far it could twist its neck back and around.

There were also red-breasted mergansers, bufflehead, Bonaparte’s gulls, ring-billed gulls. and Canada geese.
